Relief Supplies Provided to Cylonic Storm “Mocha” Victims

The Government, Tatmadaw and state and region governments provided cash assistance, relief supplies, medicines and foodstuffs to the storm victims facing loss and damage due to the cyclonic storm “Mocha” as follows:

  • On 16 May, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Transport and Communications, accompanied by Union Ministers, senior military officers, Rakhine State Chief Minister and departmental officials, encouraged the disaster victims in Maungtaw, Buthidaung, Rathedaung and Kyauktaw Townships of Rakhine State, and provided cash assistance of K130 million and aid, medicines and foodstuffs donated by the government to them.
  • On the same day, Union Minister for Border Affairs, Union Minister for Cooperatives and Development of Rural Areas and Commander of Western Command together with departmental concerned went to Myaebon, Kyaukpyu, Minbya and MraukU Townships causing loss and damage due to the impacts of cyclonic storm “Mocha” by military aircraft, and met and encouraged the storm victims at there. Moreover, cash assistance of K100 million, rice, cooking oil, salt and foodstuffs, medicines and supplies, and personnel goods were presented to them.
  • On 17 May, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Transport and Communications, accompanied by Union Ministers, senior military officers, Rakhine State Chief Minister and departmental officials, spoke words of encouragement to the disaster victims in Sittwe and Ponnagyun Townships, and provided 6,370 bags of rice, 7,645 visses of cooking oil, 6,144 visses of salt and 17 packs of goods, storage boxes for household use, instant noodles, tarpaulin sheets and cash assistance of K20 million donated by the government to the disaster-affected people.
  • On the same day, Chin State Chief Minister and Lt-Gen Tayza Kyaw from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army), Commander of Northwest Command and departmental officials provided rice, cooking oil, salt, chickpea and foodstuffs to the disaster victims from 220 households which were damaged by strong winds in Hakha, Matupi and Lailinpi Townships of Chin State, at the meeting hall of the state government in Hakha.
  • On the same day, Commander of Southwest Command and officials provided corrugated iron sheets, iron sheet nails, rice, cooking oil, foodstuffs and cash to the storm-hit people in Danuphyu Township of Ayeyawady Region, at the Township General Administration Office.
  • On the same day also, Union Minister for Border Affairs and Rakhine State Chief Minister, accompanied by senior military officers from Sittwe station and departmental officials, provided 1,200 bags of rice, 1,500 visses of cooking oil, 2,200 visses of pulses and 36 rolls of tarpaulin sheet to the storm-hit Bengalis residing at 12 IDP camps in Sittwe Township.
  • On 17 May, Union Minister for Border Affairs, Union Minister for Cooperatives and Development of Rural Areas, Commander of Western Command and officials provided cash assistance of K30 million and aid to the storm-hit people in Minbya Township, at the meeting hall of the Township Health Department.
  • On 17 May, Chair of the Sagaing Region Disaster Management Department under Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement provided cash assistance and supplies to the victims from damaged households due to strong winds in Shwebo Township of Shwebo District of Sagaing Region, at the meeting hall of Township General Administration Department.

On behalf of the disaster victims, a person spoke words of thank for those supplies to them, and the relevant officials warmly encouraged to them and attended to the needs.
